Assisi, Perugia and Halloween!

On the 28th of October we took a group trip to Assisi which is about 2 hours West of Siena. We got to this little town and it was so foggy! It kind of made it fun and feel like Halloween. It is a cute little town up on a hill.

While we were there  we saw the Basilica of Saint Clara and of Saint Francis. Both were beautiful churches. Saint Francis was the one who made nativity scenes popular, so this town was full of them. So many stores were filled with Christmas things which made me so happy! The church's we went to were beautiful but it's hard to appreciate every church because we have seen so many! I can't even remember how many Catholic Churches we have seen. Honestly they all start to mesh together and it doesn't help that I usually can't remember the names of the ones we've seen. But in the Basilica of Saint Francis some sort of mass was taking place and everyone in there was singing this song. It had a very catchy beat, there was a choir adding beautiful harmonies and a band was playing background music. The room was filled with this joyous and happy music. I am glad I was able to listen to them sing. I loved it!
Her name is Clara!

Just recreating the scene

These giant merengues were everywhere!

After a short lunch/shopping break we made our way up to a castle at the highest point of the city. The view was absolutely incredible. I swear there are great views no matter where you go in Italy!

After this trip a majority of the group went to Perugia to go to a chocolate factory. From the train station we took these awesome mini metro things that were completely automatic and very small. It was very futuristic and very fun to ride. For dinner I got the best crepe I have ever had. It had provolone, parmesan, mozzarella and blue cheese and spicy salami. Super healthy right?? It was so good! Our hostel was really nice. It was definitely not Mamma Rossa's... Me and the girls I was rooming with had a movie party that night. We watched Leap Year which made us all swoon and decide that we HAVE to marry Irish men. The next morning we came across a cute little antique fair. I love antiques and vintage things so it was fun to look around and see all the history that was packed inside these little trinkets. One of the vendors was so sweet. She kept talking to me in Italian all about the different items and jewelry she had. Kaity had to translate for me. But her and her husband were the sweetest.

Movie night!

Then we headed to the chocolate factory! It was liked being in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory plus an episode of Unwrapped. It was pretty cool to see how they made everything and wrapped everything. And then we got free samples :) It was delicious but it was chocolate overload.

This sign is rainbow because of the sunset and sky reflecting on it!
After the factory we headed back home to Siena. Our weekend kind of revolved around eating chocolate and going to that chocolate factory. So worth it!

On Halloween we had a fun little party put together by the amazing Alli. She planned out games while I stayed in the kitchen and made caramel for caramel apples. It was a fun night filled with too many sweets and great company.

Aren't we a good lookin bunch?
Overall a very very good weekend.
